Chinese Drywall

This week, Gulf Coast attorney Jim Reeves, of the Lumpkin & Reeves Law Firm in Biloxi, Mississippi, was selected as one of only 14 attorneys in the country to take the lead in national defective Chinese drywall litigation.

The Chinese Drywall lawsuits allege that defective drywall manufactured in China and imported along the Gulf Coast after the 2004-2005 hurricane season destroys the electrical and plumbing systems in buildings and must be removed.  It is believed that Mississippi, after Florida and Louisiana, has the highest concentration of the defective drywall product.

In June of this year, the New Orleans Federal Court was selected as the venue where all of the Federal Court cases in the country will be consolidated.  Thousands of lawsuits have been filed.

Mr. Reeves stated, AWith Hurricane Katrina, the Coast was a victim of the worst natural disaster in history.  Now those that rebuilt with this defective drywall have been made victims again.  I am honored to be selected to the Plaintiffs Steering Committee and anticipate that this will put us in the best possible position to make a full and prompt recovery. Jim Reeves is the only Mississippi attorney selected to the Plaintiffs Steering Committee which includes other law firms from New York, Louisiana, Florida, and North Carolina.
