Lumpkin & Reeves Assists Jimmy Buffet's Singing for a Change Foundation
Dear Mr. Lumpkin,
Judith Ranger-Smith from Jimmy Buffet's Singing for Change Foundation told me that it was your suggestion that they donate computers to our library. What a welcome sight those boxes were when they arrived last week!
Use of public computers is very popular at our library and the use rate is growing. Since we serve a predominantly low-to-moderate income community we have more families unable to purchase a computer or enough computers for their home use. Many that owned computers lost them along with other belongings during Katrina.
All this and then FEMA and other agencies encouraged everyone to apply online for
relief funds. Needless to say, since Katrina our public computers are more popular than ever.
We regularly sign in over 2,000 computer users on a monthly basis at this library.
All this is just to let
you know that the computers donated by the Foundation will be put to good use. We will expand our public
computer area, much to the delight of our customers.
Thank you for your suggestion. We've received several gracious gifts since Hurricane Katrina. This is by
far the most exciting gift we have received.
